Marco costume sheet by Wickfield Marco costume sheet by Wickfield
Well after almost exactly a year you'd think it would be ABOUT TIME I got a design sheet up for Marco. Eventually (no telling when, of course) I'd like to make a proper model sheet for him, but this will do for now.

Honestly though, it really only took so long because I pick up this project in between fan art, and I wanted to flesh out the story in my mind so I would know exactly where to go with my art. I finally have the story up on the Fooled Tumblr if you want to check it out. :)

Okay, so for this deviation. Originally, Marco started out as a peasant wannabe entertainer, although since the peasants typically value hard work, Marco wasn't really fitting in or succeeding in his dreams for comedy. He tried to fashion himself as a jester with the materials available for him, but it wasn't until he convinced Prince Leo to take him on that he became a jester proper. His "everyday" outfit is the one he appears in most of the time (and the one he wears on his "quest"). The gala outfit is his fancy jester uniform worn for parties - in this case, the gala thrown by Leo wear Marco first faces off against the villain, Fiorvante. The knight outfit is actually the armor belonging to the White Knight, which Marco dons when he impersonates the White Knight on the mission to save the prince. Finally, his "regal" uniform is the one he wears as the jester under Lucia's court - she is way more fashionable (she would never put up with a dorky uniform, even for her jester), and also this uniform makes him look a bit more masculine and gives him a little more dignity, since by this point he has been successful in saving the prince. ;)

Thanks for looking!

Is Marco meant to be Spanish, Greek, Italian or Turkish?

Oh, good question, all the characters are Italian. Marco (and for that matter, Brutus) look more "stereotypically" Italian with the dark skin and features. :)

Which town or city of Italy is it based? Rome? Venice? Sicily? Vatican City?

Honestly, it is really just a combination of a bunch of Italian cities into one fake one (their kingdom/city/thing is Valona), it makes things easier and allows for a little more artistic liberty to just make a fake city with elements of lots of different ones.  However, I am basing Lucia's dresses more off those from Ferrara or even Florence instead of Venice, because I don't really like the high-waisted Venetian gowns for her design. :P

Does he go around all over the top and says "Mama Mia!" when he sees something exciting?

Haha, that's a little "Mario Bros." for Marco, I think. ;)  He does enjoy a good slice of pizza from time to time, though!
